Unlike what Brad and Taylor said about how everyone hasn't always had the right to think, I think every civilization in history has had the right to think. In some countries you might get in trouble for acting or saying what you think, but you can think what you want. In the book "1984" there were devices that made the government capable of reading your thoughts, but the world has never had anything like that so nothing prevents us from thinking freely.
The thought of this idea has occurred to me before. It's unimaginable to think what it would be like if this right was taken away. Our thoughts just come to us, we don't think about what we're going to think. Maybe if a mind reading device came out we could train ourselves to not think about certain topics, but for me stuff just pops into my head without my control. Trying to restrict our thoughts would probably be like trying to control our dreams.
Reading "Inherit the Wind" hasn't changed my opinion on this topic at all. I do and I always will take the right to think for granted. I don't think I mentally can not take it for granted because it is the most obvious right the world can have. If we didn't have the right to think and we were punished for certain thoughts then wouldn't everyone be close to the same. Their opinions would be the same because they wouldn't have a choice and then there would be not controversy in the world and controversy is one of the biggest things that separates one person from another person. The right to think isn't a privilege or a right, but more of something that no one can control.
