Catcher in the Rye: Out of all the books this semester i liked this one the least. Although i agree with Missy that it was an interesting book and had some deep themes about growing up, I was all to thrilled with the plot. What i got from the book is that Holden walks around New York for a few days and tells about his fellings. However despite its dull plot i think the voice of Holden is realisitc and very direct to the reader.
Inherit the Wind: This was my second favorite book of the semester. It is a great fictional play that is based on a real life trial and all the characters faithfully portray their real life conterparts but show them in a more personal light which i really liked. I also liked the play because of the main issue in the play which to me is always an interesting debate one of the most important of any period in history.
First they Killed my Father: This was my favorite book out of them all. The story itself is incredible in its own right truly showing what life was like in Cambodia at that time. Also the detail with which Ung describes the past is amazing especially considering she was only around eight years old when all this occured. All the events are descibed with the clarity only someone who has been in the middle of them can know.
A Midsummers Night Dream: Though i thought this would be another boring old play from several hundred years ago this play suprised me. The plot was not a unlike a modern romantic comedy and it was amazing that the comedy in the play briged the gap of time and was still funny to me. It changed my outlook on Shakespeares comedies opening up a whole new range of plays for me to read and I truely think this is one of his greatest works.
My Antonia: I found this novel to be the hardest to read of them all. It was just an incredibley slow read which im not sure if it was the gap in time or just the content but it really seemed to drag. I agree with Taylor that it seemed to be just about two kids growing up in Nebraska and having everything in their live s dramatized and the the part where Jim goes to college is really irrleavant to the overall story.
