1st semester review

Catcher in the Rye: Even though this was not one of my favorite books, I do have to admit I enjoyed it. The character of Holden, although he did get on my nerves a bit, really forced me to use my imagination. He was mysterious and always left us hanging. He never explained reasoning behind everything he did and it really pulled me into the story. I had to pretend like I was in his position in each event in the story.
First They Killed my Father: This was my favorite of all the stories we read. It was clearly the most realistic and filled with the most emotions. I was disturbed, depressed, and happy at different times throughout the book and could not put it down. The description of Loung's thoughts when her whole family was together on their journey and at the camp really interested me.
Inherit the Wind: I felt as if this play had potential if it was a longer story. I wasn't understanding all of the court and law concepts and explanations needed to be incorporated into the story along with everything else. Other than the confusion, the story wasn't that bad. Each character was unique and could be explained easily. This story teaches many lessons that can be interpreted in different ways.
A Midsummer Night’s Dream: I would never pick this book to read on my own but it was entertaining and quite humorous at times. It wasn't as complicated and difficult to understand as most of Shakespeare's novels. I was never bored while reading it especially when the fairies would make mistakes and have to figure out how to fix it. The serious-humor of all the characters, especially the 4 loved ones and their cluelessness really held the story together.
My Antonia: This book was my least favorite of them all. It was boring in my opinion. There were parts where I felt pity towards Antonia for having to live such a hard life and put in more effort than everyone else and was still not treated right but it still didn't get me interested.
