Catcher in the Rye in my opinion was the best book that we read all semester. I enjoyed reading Holden's thoughts and reactions to certain things that he encountered on his journey through New York City. At first, like Taylor, I couldn't get into the book. I didn't expect the book to become interesting at all. As we continued reading, I found myself reading ahead to see what happened next. At first, I thought Holden was just plain weird. But after learning about what he went through with his brother, I understood why he acted the way he did. He's obviously still effected by his brother's death. My favorite part in this novel was when Holden went back home to say goodbye to his sister. I thought that was very sweet of him. It showed that he really did care about some people in his life and that not everyone was a 'phony'. I'm really glad that he would actually take the time to think about what Phoebe was telling him.
Inherit the Wind was an interesting book to read. I really liked how it was based of a true event and how it told the story of a brave man wanting to teach his students evolution. Burt showed me what courage really was. I also liked how Rachel changed so much during the book. In the beginning she was a girl who only believed in creation and nothing else. Towards the end she was willing to read the book of evolution and try to understand what it was saying. In a town where evolution was considered evil, Rachel's willingness meant a lot. Overall, the book was a great read. And like Missy, I enjoyed learning what the title, inherit the wind really meant.
