The right to think is something that everybody always has and will always have, its put in you as part of you. Even as a kid, your constantly able to choose, “if this is wrong, can I do it anyway?” and things like that. But the statement “the right to think” I feel doesn’t come off right. I personally don’t think it’s a right, I feel it’s a part of you that you’ll always have, and your opinions will be part of you till the day you die. Now I know that there are ways of limiting what people know and can think about, by keeping them isolated and only exposed to certain things, like some countries around the world. But everybody still will always be able to say quietly to themselves, “this isn’t right” or “I don’t agree” and theres nothing anybody can do about it. I would like to back what Spencer was saying about how you need to have the right to think to be able to survive, otherwise where would we be today? And this also proves my idea, about how everybody has the right to think no matter what they are exposed too, because the first mean and cave men and early civilizations were not exposed to anything, but somehow came up with fire, the wheel, even electricity, all simply from thinking.
Before reading Inherit the Wind, I never really gave it a thought. I never thought about, what if I wasn’t able to have opinions? Or if it was frowned upon to not think on our owns? But I did think about countries where people cant make up their own ideas and act on it, and really I feel sorry for people in those situations because I don’t know what type of person I’d be if I wasn’t able to think on my own. Reading Inherit the Wind, really has just backed up how I feel about the subject. Like many characters in the book, im a devout catholic and I do believe in the bible, but I also can see why Darwinism and other scientific findings can be truthful also, so I would like to say I believe both. There is no right or wrong answer, I feel that you should be able to feel however you want, and not have the guy sitting next to you be able to criticize or judge you because of this.
