Mary Fons was my favorite presenter from the entire week. She was energetic and her writing was easy to relate to. As she was reading it, I was thinking how true the descriptions of how people act and talk are. Her presentation was very interesting because she acted everything out. She turned herself into a character from her writing.
Dr. Small:
Dr. Small's writing was very unique. I loved the way she read emails and letters instead of turning it all into a big story. The intended audience of her writing was her family and it made it interesting to hear it be read to a different audience. It was almost as if she was acting out a conversation with her family members on stage in front of us. Her writing was about her and her farm and "family" of animals. There were a lot of mixed emotions in it. I laughed when it was funny and teared up a bit when she was talking about the baby horse not being healthy. I thought it was a very moving piece of writing and really enjoyed it.
Emily Hill's Dad:
Mrs. Hill's dad wrote about his family and the chaos that comes with it. I couldn't help but laugh at some of the things he said. The thing that stuck out to me the most was that he started writing because of his daughter and he thanked her for getting him into that hobby and helping him improve his work.
Jonathan Eig:
I personally did not like Jonathan Eig very much. I think if I was interested in the topics he was talking about I might've enjoyed listening to what he had to say but sports and Al Capone aren't the sort of things I want to hear about at 7:30 in the morning. I do respect the fact that he only writes about things that he can prove and put in tons of time and research on his topics before he started writing about them. That shows that he is someone who really enjoys learning and then teaching others productively.
Students:
I loved hearing what my peers wrote about. It inspires me to start writing myself although I don't think I would ever feel comfortable sharing my writing. I really admire all of the students that got up on that stage and read in front of all of those people because pieces of writing can be very personal. Stephanie Fox was very enthusiastic with her presentation and changed her entire personality to fit the character she was reading about.
Mr. Romano, Mr. Anderson & Mr. Brewner:
I thought that Mr. Romano's writing was hilarious. He really got into character and changed his voice and accent as he went along. Mr. Anderson's writing was very easy to understand and I enjoyed it a lot. Mr. Brewner's story of getting injured was very moving. It really shows that everything happens for a reason.
I think writers week might be my favorite week out of the entire school year. The presenters this year really made me think of life in many different perspectives. I've become a lot more inspired to write for pleasure rather than just writing when a teacher assigns it for homework. I don't believe that any piece of writing could be bad because each piece has its own meaning and story behind it.
